nachbarschafft e.V. is a non-profit organization that originated from the initiative "Volunteers Help in Wilmersdorf Town Hall", which provided support to refugees in the emergency shelter at the town hall starting in 2015. The emergency shelter was closed at the end of 2017, but many members wished to continue their volunteer efforts for refugee integration and community coexistence in Berlin. As a result, 12 members of "Volunteers Help" founded the association nachbarschafft e. V. in August 2017.

The association applied to take over the former building of the Parks Department at 37 Schoelerpark and was awarded the contract by the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district office in October 2017. The House of Neighbourhood is intended to be a meeting place where individuals from diverse backgrounds, whose paths may not typically intersect in daily life, can connect through non-commercial activities.
